Carnac is a medieval town in Brittany with literally thousands of standing stones. They are best seen out of season at the extremes of the day when an atmospheric mist lingers over the ground. We arrived in the blistering heat of midday! They were very impressive but I spent most of my time dodging from tree to tree to try and give the dogs - and me some shade! At one point, poor Suzy lay down panting furiously and refused to budge!
The most atmospheric place for us was a stone called the giant stone, it stood about 4 meters tall and was in a wood at the the periphery of the area. I decided to try and feel its 'energy' -hippy that I am! I placed my hands about an inch away from it and to my surprise it felt very cold. I thought initially that meant no energy, but then as I moved my hands over it I started to feel hot spots. (And it wasn't in the sun). I reckon I was feeling positive and negative energy! Creepy!
On a more mundane note, we had yummy savoury buckwheat crepes in the town, and we actually found the Aire!! It was right in the centre, jam packed- but free! And there was a fiesta going on with lots of stalls selling everything Breton, and music and dancing in the streets, so we had a great evening. The next morning, I took the dogs out to 'do their business' in what I thought was an out of the way place. However Ginny spotted a house with an open door. A lady was letting her dog out and having a peaceful ciggy when next thing Ginny shoots passed her legs and into her house, despite me screaming hysterically after her. I think she had had enough of 'van life' and decided she wanted to live back in civilisation!
