In the Campo (country side) somewhere south of Madrid) 29th Aug

We hit the road, mid-afternoon heading ever southwards towards Madrid and Andalucía. When we were about 40km from Madrid we saw what looked like an incredibly large building that literally dwarfed all the others around it. As we got closer, we saw that it was in fact 3 towers, very close together.

We have found the roads in Spain to be largely deserted. Even going through the centre of Madrid was quite straight forward, with good signing, we didn't even need to slow down.

As we crossed Spain, we saw lots of giant Torros on the sides of the highways. I just love them.

As the sun was going down, we realised that there were no campsites anywhere near our route, so the time had come to do some genuine 'wild' camping!
We found a picnic site off the road, with a track along the side, ideal for walking the dogs. So we took them for a walk and ended up on a dusty dirt road with yellow sun-bleached fields on either side of us. We felt like we had been transported to South America, specifically the Chaco of Paraguay. No wonder the Spanish felt so at home there! We came across a fork in the road, with a perfect Cassie sized space, and I suggested that we move the van here for the night, as it was so much quieter away from the motorway. Nick was concerned that we might be trespassing, but I pointed out that there were several roads, and we hadn't passed any private signs, or gates, and we would probably be safer here, as we weren't visible from the highway, so he reluctantly agreed. The dogs loved it, for the first time they could explore at will without being restrained.
