Gironde: Lacanau 25th Aug

We asked 'Tomasina' to find the way to Lacanau which is on a spit of land west of Bordeaux, and as usual we requested 'no toll roads'. So we were rather surprised when she took us to a very pretty town called Blaye on the north side of the Gironde estuary. 'Perhaps they have built a new bridge' we mused, as to be fair our Michelin map is about 20 years old! However we were completely gob-smacked when Tomasina directs us to the quay-side and then calmly says ' and then take the ferry'!! Which, incidentally costs 24 euros and only runs every 4 hours!!
Never mind, we ended up taking the 'scenic route' to Bordeaux, and eventually found the Aire which was nearer to Ocean Lacanau than Lacanau, and it wasn't free, more like a budget camp-site, but lots of space, and we were chilling over a glass of wine, when brother-in-law Pat phones to find out when we will be arriving at his place, in AndalucĂa. 'What?! We have to stick to a timetable?!! But we are retired'!! It turns out they have arranged a party on the 31st and we are the guests of honour, so we really need to be there. 'OK' we say, 'today is the 24th, right'? 'Err no' says Pat. 'It is the 25th'. OMG, we have lost a day, how did that happen? We really were losing the plot! However, as you can see from this blog, I found it again!
We had originally planned, as some of you may know, to go along the edge of the Pyrenees to Perpignan and then down through Spain via the Dali museum. So we asked the TomTom how far it was to Pat's directly. '500 miles' she said. Then I asked 'how about if we went via Perpignan?' More frantic calculations, and then she finally replies '1000 miles' 'Hmm' we think. And the party starts at 2pm. I think we are going to have to change our plans somewhat! So we decide to visit the Rioja region instead!
